SPIRIT IN MATTERS:
Taking a Higher View of Life on Earth FROM THIS VANTAGE POINT...
Settling back into the routine of life after the festivities of the holiday may be a bit different this year. Just days before the New Year arrived, slow-moving Uranus moved from the sign of Aquarius, where it’s been since 1996, into Pisces giving rise to new energies and all new themes. During Uranus’ journey through Aquarius, the internet and cell phones are just two of the major technological advances that have became common place. What will our focus change to now?
Uranus, called the Great Awakener, brings surprises though its love of ingenuity, creativity and penchant for change. Life is drastically altered in the area of life described by the sign it is traveling through.
In the sign of Pisces, we can expect to be encouraged to move beyond our individual egos to a larger search for meaning - beyond engrained beliefs. We could find ourselves pondering the sky, the ocean, and unseen dimensions. There may be more day and night dreaming, more inclination toward meditation and prayer. Most will become more sensitive and feelings will remind us of our interconnections with all life; that is, for those who don’t become fearful of emotions, numbing out on various substances.
At a global level, the feelings of interconnection suggest a growing movement toward peace, with people working to push aside their leaders, who are often the obstacle. One example is the recent Geneva Accord for the Middle East. Crafted by former government officials and other prominent citizens of Israel and Palestine, this agreement lays out specific steps to be taken to create a tangible peace. Even though unofficial, it may well have a strong influence in shifting the intransigence of both governments to date.
One strong time period for possible peace initiatives is the end of September. It wouldn’t be surprising if President Bush suddenly took on the personae of peacemaker (convenient timing to the elections, of course.). Needless to say, it will take more than a two-week period to produce a lasting peace, but compliments of Uranus, we will have an astrological environment that promotes peace through 2011.
We can begin this year knowing, while there are signs of breakdown around us, there is also support for evolutionary growth in consciousness. The new energies of Uranus in Pisces signify a time when we will more naturally notice and acknowledge our interconnection with all life – aware of Spirit in matters.

The Bush Administration and its Congressional allies tucked away these new executive powers in the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2004, a legislative behemoth that funds all the intelligence activities of the federal government.
...The Senate passed it with a voice vote to avoid individual accountability. While broadening the definition of "financial institution," the Bush administration is ramping up provisions within the 2001 USA Patriot Act, which granted the FBI the authority to obtain client records from banks by merely requesting the records in a "National Security Letter." To get the records, the FBI doesn't have to appear before a judge, nor demonstrate "probable cause" - reason to believe that the targeted client is involved in criminal or terrorist activity. Moreover, the National Security Letters are attached with a gag order, preventing any financial institution from informing its clients that their records have been surrendered to the FBI. If a financial institution breaches the gag order, it faces criminal penalties. And finally, the FBI will no longer be required to report to Congress how often they have used the National Security Letters.

INEQUITY: IS IT A SIN? By Jane Lampman, Staff writer, The Christian Science Monitor http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/1224/p14s03-lire.html
The rich-poor gap in the United States has doubled in 21 years and is set to widen further under new tax cuts. People of faith say society has a moral responsibility to narrow that gap.
Does this mean something's gone wrong with the American dream? Some people of faith think so. This is more than an economic or social concern, they say. It's a moral and theological issue - one they insist demands attention.
