SPIRIT IN MATTERS: Taking a Higher View of
Life on Earth
Those who have been subscribers from the beginning can confirm that I have not once talked about astrology in this newsletter – even though many of you know that I have a life long interest and have been doing astrological counseling since 1995. This weekend there is such a rare alignment in the heavens that I would be remiss if I didn’t share my knowledge of its significance. It has been dubbed the Harmonic Concordance.
What’s so rare? We have a lunar eclipse at least twice a year. That’s not rare. It is a total lunar eclipse which is visible from the Washington, DC area at around 8:13 PM on Saturday night – not all that rare.
What makes this special is the fact that 1) the planets form a beautiful symbol – Star of David – in the sky (two sets of three planets in a triangle or trine), 2) Uranus, retrograde since early June, will be stationary and going in direct motion within hours of the eclipse, and 3) Mars will come out of it’s retrograde shadow and again become fully active on the same day. [I promise not to be more technical than that.]
In short, there are a lot happening in the heavens. What does it mean to me?
Lunar eclipses always portend change – something ends – and makes way for the beginning that is represented by the solar eclipse that follows, in this case on Nov 23. In days of old, astrologers were valued by kings to foretell what was often their death or defeat at the time of an eclipse. JFK Jr’s fateful plane crash happened at the time of a lunar eclipse in 1999.
Death is not the only form of transformation, however, and for most of us this eclipse holds the promise of a deep transformation in our relationship with Life. We are being given an opportunity for an easier alignment of our inner values with our outer expression. The key questions are “Who are you? What are your unique gifts? What do you most value? How do you wish to express who you are, your unique gifts, and what you most value in the world?”
Those with their sun or other planets in Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius and Leo will be most influenced. All other signs may be affected, however, because the eclipse point falls somewhere in everyone’s chart and will create change in that area of your life. [If you’d like to know more about how the Harmonic Concordance affects you personal, I am doing mini-readings by phone for $30.]
Don’t expect an instantaneous change, though it could be possible due to an external event – but observe how you may choose to live with more integrity in your everyday life, willing to stand for what you believe as well as opening to your connection with everyone and everything. The window of influence for this event began Oct 8 and will extend to Dec 8 (some say up to Apr 8).
These are powerful times of change – record breaking solar flares bringing record warm weather in some parts, birds committing suicide (see article below), etc. – and I am heartened that the breakdown we may be seeing is really portending a breakthrough to a new world where recognizing the “spirit in matters” transforms in all our relationships. We must all be fully who we are in all our uniqueness, to enjoy our unity in our diversity.

“Outer-worldly situations can only change if there is corresponding change in the minds and hearts of men. When every soul on the planet remembers the Oneness of all Life, and that if we harm another, we are in actuality harming ourselves, then this profound truth will open up the panoramic, mind-blowing concepts of the interconnectedness, inter-relatedness, and the ultimate inter-dependent-ness of soul and soul. Can you imagine how people will interact once the profoundness of this truth pervades their consciousness?" ---Mrs. Veena Minocha, astrologer for the Hindustan Times

“The long-term presence of Uranus and Neptune in mutual reception through 2010 indicates a mass movement towards world peace and the elimination of weapons and threats of violence. I think there is hope for this planet and her inhabitants. However, I also believe that before world peace can even be considered a realistic possibility, it will be necessary for the voices of astrologers to be heard once again, for they—perhaps more than any other branch of study—truly understand that there is a connection between Man and the Cosmos, and the Infinite intelligence that created this order in the Universe.” ---Ray Merriman, Market Week Oct. 27.2003

'Sesame Stories' Broadcast in Middle East http://www.softcom.net/webnews/wed/ah/Umideast-sesamestreet.Rium_DOK.html
BRUSSELS, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- "Sesame Stories," co-produced by Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organization behind "Sesame Street," is creating three Middle East children's TV shows. In a news conference Monday hosted by the European Union in Brussels, the producers said the project is targeted for children ages 4 to 7, and aims to help lay the foundation for future stability, prosperity, and hope for peace in the Middle East. "At a time when television and other media are transmitting difficult news, 'Sesame Stories' will encourage children to appreciate similarities and differences in their own culture and others," a statement said. "Each tale chosen is chosen for its ability to illuminate the core themes of tolerance, child self-empowerment, empathy and respect."
U.S. Becoming the Monster It Fears
http://www.mndaily.com/articles/2003/10/28/7156 [Dianne: How hypocritical we are – as a nation that prides itself as the example to the world of justice, freedom, democracy, and human rights – to let this continue.]
There have been 32 attempted suicides by 21 individuals over the last two years, reflecting the psychological pressure on the detainees. The committee claims this largely results from the detainees’ uncertainties about their future, though it is not the only cause. The Washington Post reported Aug. 19 that former detainees claim U.S. officials subject detainees to extraordinarily lengthy interrogations, in which detainees stand for prolonged periods of time and are subjected to sleep deprivation or other disorienting tactics such as forced injections.
Double Payment By Robert Reich
http://www.tompaine.com/feature2.cfm/ID/9258 Prescription drugs are the largest single health-care expense for most Americans, especially seniors. And drug prices are rising at a whopping 17 percent a year, more than four times faster than inflation. Pharmaceutical prices are higher in the United States than in any other country in the world. That’s why increasing numbers of Americans are filling their prescriptions in Canada. It’s also why politicians of all stripes are eager to put their names on legislation providing prescription-drug benefits. Whatever emerges from this Congress is likely to be a complex and pricy scheme that will cost American taxpayers upwards of $400 billion over the next decade. Drug companies say all this money is necessary because research and development on new drugs is hugely expensive. Bringing a new drug to market costs between $500 and $800 million. And we all benefit from what these new drugs can do. But pharmaceutical companies don’t own up to the fact that you and I are already paying twice for new drugs. Not only do we pay high and rapidly-escalating purchase prices for them. We also pay through our taxes. You see, a portion of federal tax revenues goes to support drug research.
