Generations
Though astrology’s
benefits are well-known
for
self-understanding and couple counseling, using astrological insights to
understand a child’s unique attributes and to consider how a parent might
better relate to and encourage their child’s strengths is not commonly known.
There’s an old adage that
“the apple never falls far from the tree,” which is used to explain a trait
(often a failing) as having been passed from one generation to another. “He’s
a chip of the old block.” “Like mother, like daughter.” All these sayings
seem to indicate that our children are just miniature version of ourselves or
just like us. It’s true that physical features, even speaking tone, may prove
this point, but is it true of general character and personality?
Astrological research
indicates that when looking at all the charts of one family, there does indeed
seem to be similar or repeat aspects that link them, like a family issue or
theme. However, it is also true that one member of the family is often
disconnected (different) from all the others, proving that no broad
assumptions can be made.
I have pondered how my
life would be different had my parents understood my eccentric nature, my need
for creative stimulation and many friends. Rather than my mother trying to
teach me to fear strangers (as she does), she might realize that my nature was
more inclined to discovery and enjoyment of different people, not fear of
them.
I thoroughly enjoy doing
astrological consultations of children’s charts for parents. My approach is to
describe the “opening rose bud” without limiting or defining the child who has
yet to fully bloom. Yet, our basic nature is apparent early on. Without
limiting potential, much can be said to encourage parents to appreciate the
unique begin in their care.
Recently, I chuckled
inside as I sat reading the chart of a 9 month old Gemini boy for his mother.
The boy was crawling all over the room, pulling himself up to look at
something, and just as quickly crouching back down to discover the next piece
of furniture. His natural Geminian curiosity was fully apparent! This mother
came to me with a sincere desire to understand her son in order to promote his
greatest development into the unique being he is. How truly wise she is!
I have a session coming up
with a mother and her 10 year old daughter. One of the reasons given for the
reading is to better understanding of parent/child differences and explore
possibilities for better communication. Mother and daughter will be coming
together. What at treat! The 10-year old with be able to interact with the
process and feel validated for who she is!
Astrology can open a world
of insight for parents to know just how their issues are being repeated in
their child’s life. It could actually help find resolution and create new
possibilities. It is also helpful to discover where the differences simply
need to be honored. How could the whole family benefit if the misunderstood
family member finds greater self-acceptance through an early, sensitive look
at their potential as revealed in the astrology chart?
Do you know someone who
could benefit from a greater understanding of their child’s unique character
and potential as well as knowing how they fit into the family system? I would
love to help.
