This time of year, we often hear or see the words "awe" and
"wonder" in Christmas carols or on greeting cards. Tradition
has it that Mary wondered at the Angel's message that she
would bear the Christ, the Wise Men (astrologers) were in awe
of the star in the East, the shepherds wondered at the
heavenly hosts singing, etc.
Hopefully, we haven't lost the feeling of "awe" and "wonder"
twenty-one centuries later. Surely the mysteries of the
Universe are no less magnificent today, even though as seen
through the eyes of science.
Recently Comet Holmes has captured global attention. In only
42 hours on October 23-24, 2007, the comet increased its
brightness by a factor of about half a million -- the largest
known outburst by a comet.Then
on November 9, 2007 the coma, the dust ball around the comet,
was estimated be the largest object in the solar system, with
a diameter greater than that of the Sun (though its mass is,
by Solar System standards, minuscule). Astounding!
Modern seers are calling it the "Blue Sun" since it appeared
in the sky as larger than our Sun. Some say it is heralding a
new time of increased intuition and oneness for humanity.
Then there's all the hype about December 21, 2012, the end of
a 5000 year cycle in the Mayan calendar. (For the record, I
believe we have even less to fear than we did for Y2K!)
But whether you buy any of this or not, you have to agree that
time is speeding up and energetically life is getting pretty
intense.
Astrologically, we are experiencing several rare and profound
cosmic events:
On December 11, Jupiter and Pluto will join forces at 28
Sagittarius, on the Galactic Center. This has been influencing
us since early November and will continue through January. The
Galactic Center is the site of a super massive black hole
which is the rotational center of our galaxy, the Milky Way,
and the source of most of the gravitational energy present.
Although Jupiter crosses this point every 12 years, Pluto last
visited this part of our solar system in the 1760s when the
concept of unalienable rights like human freedom and democracy
burst onto the scene.
Pluto begins its 15-year visit in Capricorn the end of
January, which last happened 1762 to 1777, before Pluto had
even been discovered. What revolution in government and
commerce could the U.S. be ready for now?
Today and in the foreseeable future there exists a great
possibility for change and evolution as well as some sort of
revolution. All of which may create new awe and wonder, if we
don't fall prey to fear of change.
Too much to think about? That's just fine. Because we only
ever live in the now and the future is always mere
speculation.
The place to look for awe and wonder is right in your daily
life - in the smile on a child's face, in the purr of a cat,
in the sky images created by clouds, in your loved one's touch
and in a million other simple, everyday experiences both at
the Holidays and all year long.
So put a little awe and wonder in your life by noticing the
little things. They are the real gifts of living!
May you have a love-filled Holiday full of awe and wonder! To
those who read my words, whether I have met you personally or
not, I send you blessings and my hope that 2008 is a
spectacular year for you and your family.
