The Significance of an Eclipse
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the coming month, we have both a Lunar and Solar eclipse making it is a perfect time to discuss their significance. Every year we have at least two of each so it’s not a rare occurrence. What gives significance to an eclipse is the position of the planets relative to the eclipse point and, more importantly, how closely it aligns with your personal natal chart.
Lunar eclipses occur at the time of a Full Moon when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon casting a shadow on the Moon making it visually dimmer. Since the Moon represents emotions and habit patterns, when it is eclipsed there is possibility of irrational emotional responses. The Ancients view an eclipse of the Moon’s light as a bad omen.
Actually, the time of the Full Moon can be extra emotional anyway for those who have the Moon or Cancer planets (the sign it rules) prominent in their chart. A Lunar eclipse could be said to be an exaggerated Full Moon.
The coming Lunar eclipse on March 3rd will occur at 13 Virgo. You may feel emotionally stressed out a couple days on either side of this date if you have personal planets or the angles of your chart within a degree or two of 13 Virgo. The Sun in Pisces will be conjoined Uranus making it even more possible for chaotic circumstances and erratic behavior. You could have a hard time separating your ego from your emotions.
As erratic as Lunar eclipses may be, they are relatively short-lived compared to a Solar eclipse. Lunar eclipses usually resolve in a couple weeks, by the time of the New Moon/Solar Eclipse. Solar eclipses are more powerful. They have a window of influence that can occur from a couple months before to more than six months after. Something is coming to an end and the new beginning needs time to take form.
Solar eclipses occur at the time of a New Moon. In this case the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth blocking some or all of the Sun’s light. Total Solar eclipses are less common and are seen from only a small region of the Earth. The Ancients believed that the loss of the Sun’s light was cause for dread and predicted the fall of the ruler and his armies.
On March 18 a Partial Solar eclipse will occur at 29 Pisces near the end of the Zodiac and be visible in Eastern and Central Asia.
Those most affected will have a planet or angle within a degree or two of 29 Pisces or 29 Virgo. The planet or angle will hold a high energy charge that may act for good or ill. The difficulty of the eclipse depends on the condition of the planet by house and aspect. The time of action is usually triggered by a conjunction of Mars to that point, which will take place May 12. We can look to May 12 to see more clearly the significance of this eclipse.
In addition, this Solar eclipse is happening square (at 90 degrees) to Pluto in late Sagittarius giving the likelihood that power and control issues will arise. Watch out for a clash of belief systems yet don’t dishonor your own point-of-view. Anyone with a planet or angle from 27 Pisces or Virgo to 1 Aries or Capricorn will be affected along with me. (Just because I am an astrologer doesn’t make me immune to the planetary influences !)
The beginning of the Zodiac at 0 Aries is known as the Aries Point and holds a resonance for world events. Major planetary alignments to this point usually have a global societal effect. It will be interesting to pay attention to what occurs around this time that has a global result.
Anticipating what the meaning of the March 18 Solar eclipse might be for me personally has helped remind me that appearances can be deceiving. The most that can be said is that eclipses are heralds of change. But change can be good too, not just ill. What appears as ill, such as the end of something that is no longer needed or purposeful, can bring in a new beginning to a life of more joy and satisfaction.
I welcome the new beginning ahead!
Coming Planetary Alignments
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NOTE: The following are general comments on the energies of each day. Your personal experience may be strongly modified by the relationship of these transits to your individual natal chart. To understand the significance of your personal experience, consult a professional astrologer.

Saturday, Feb 17, 11:14 am ET – NEW MOON at 28 Aquarius sextile Pluto in Sagittarius
This New Moon occurs in the air sign of Aquarius (no it’s not a water sign, just the sign of the “water bearer” who pours wisdom onto the masses). The air element concerns mental and communication processes. Pluto provides resourcefulness and with Mercury, Uranus and the North Node aligned, we can expect fresh new ideas - inspiration to serve as solutions to old problems or insights for the future.

If you wish upon the New Moon (within 3 days before or after), you have the possibility of fulfillment by the time of the Full Moon. Aquarius New Moon wishes relate to: inventive solutions, seeing the future, humanitarian attitudes, revelations, humor, friends, avoiding excessive detachment.

Monday, Feb 19 - Venus in Pisces squares Pluto in Sagittarius
What do you passionately believe or strongly desire? Are you expecting others to agree with your values? Be careful not to manipulate their agreement. If you appreciate a diversity of viewpoints, you will enjoy the passionate exchange.

Wednesday, Feb 28 - Saturn in Leo opposes Neptune in Aquarius
This is the second of three passes of this powerful era-defining alignment that began last summer and will continue until July. In the August issue of Astrology in Matters I wrote about it in detail. By now you may have experienced difficulty balancing between despair and idealism. The power of this aspect can be found by grounding your ideals into reality. What can you tangibly do to bring Heaven on Earth? On a collective level, it opens a window of opportunity for societal transformation that further be influenced by major planetary alignments in the next several years.

Saturday, Mar 3, 6:17 pm ET - FULL MOON/TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE at 13 Virgo/Pisces
Normally, the Virgo Full Moon is a calm affair, but with Uranus joining the Sun, look for something unexpected to happen. A fanatical approach is not wise and opposition is not the answer in interpersonal circumstances. Venus is uncomfortable with the Moon suggesting that you may need to forego getting your way at the moment. It doesn’t help that Mercury is still retrograde. Also, under a Lunar Eclipse, it has to do with practical expression of your ideals and aspirations for wholeness and healing - the continuing theme of the Saturn/Neptune link.

Monday, Mar 5 - Sun conjoins Uranus in Pisces
An annual event, this could represent a breakthrough or critical moment when you have clarity with which to take action. Perhaps a radical change in your situation or relationship will occur. Globally, there could be upsetting situations involving oil, oceans, wet weather, or religious fanaticism. Let’s hope not!

Wednesday, Mar 7 - Mercury stations going direct at 25 Aquarius
Hooray! Misunderstandings and malfunctions cease as the planet of communication resumes normal motion. Wait a couple days before signing papers and making large purchases. New projects have a chance to succeed if you have used the last three weeks to review your previous accomplishments and now seek to build on them.

Thursday, Mar 8 - Venus in Aries trines Jupiter in Sagittarius
Go out and enjoy yourself tonight! There’s a sense of adventure in the air so why not grab your lover or best friend to share the excitement!

Friday, Mar 9 - Venus in Aries trines Saturn in Leo and sextiles Neptune, Sun in Pisces squares Jupiter in Sagittarius
After the letting loose of yesterday, reality sets in today. The price of your hopes and dreams are likely to be measured along with the reality of current bills. You may realize now that your resources are not a plentiful as yesterday’s dreams.

Friday, March 16 - Jupiter in Sagittarius trine Saturn in Leo, Venus in Aries trine Pluto in Sagittarius, Mercury in Aquarius sextiles Venus in Aries and Pluto in Sagittarius
Good day for economic planning, making long range travel arrangements and enjoying the passion of deep intimacy in relationships.

ADVANCE ALERT
Sunday, Mar 18, 10:43 pm ET - NEW MOON/PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE at 29 Pisces

A very powerful eclipse! Happening on the next-to-the-last degree of the zodiac, we may be compelled inward to make important and overdue changes. Pluto squares the eclipse point ensuring irrevocable and profound growth, particularly if it hits your natal chart directly as it will mine. It is also connected to the mass movements and changes in society so we’ll see what that may mean for humanity.
