Come Home to
the Moment
These words came to me from an inner voice at an uncomfortable
moment early in our trip. I was feeling discombobulated by the travel, moving to
a new campsite every night and never knowing whether we’d have cell phone
coverage or an ability to read email.
I felt disorientation by having all my normal routines disrupted and it felt
pretty uncomfortable for the first few days. On the other hand, a change of
routine was the very thing I was looking forward to. As the adage goes “be
careful what you wish for, you might get it.”
What I think my inner voice was trying to teach me is that there is the
opportunity to know “home” in every moment of our lives. That sense of home is
very important to anyone who has Cancer prominent in their chart (Sun, Moon,
Ascendant or several planets in Cancer, which is called a stellium). I have a
Cancer rising along with Mars and Saturn in Cancer. As much as I love to roam,
my nesting instinct is strong. Our tent camper has now become my nest.
On a much deeper level, however, we carry within us a sense of home that comes
from our soul’s connection to Source or God. It is that which is eternal and
ever providing the true sense of security that our physical home represents.
I am learning that whatever is happening in the moment to distress me – like
pouring down rain when the bathroom is far from my campsite or needing to make a
call when there’s no cell coverage – is a fleeting issue. If I spend my time
focused on the discomfort or injustice or whatever thought I use to resist the
moment, I am disconnecting from my true sense of home when, in fact, that sense
of home I carry with me is in every moment.
I am learning to come home to the moment.
