In Darkness, Preparation for New Growth

Every year at the Winter Solstice in the northern hemisphere, we become aware that daylight is shorter. There is more darkness than light. The Sun is at its most southern point and we are aware that nature is hibernating until spring. We refer to this time as “the dead of winter.”

Though nothing appears alive, the seeds that will manifest as flowers in spring are inwardly preparing for new growth. Things appear to be inactive even while there is a powerful process underway that will eventually produce new plant life and new beauty.

Such is the reality of human life, though we may not recognize the connection. Can you remember a time when you felt eager for a change - perhaps a new job or a new relationship - yet nothing in the outer world seemed to be happening? Long periods of time passed with no resolution or change in your situation.

At these times, we are given the opportunity to shift our inner reality. To bring new possibilities into our life, it is necessary to shift our inner awareness to match that which we desire. When I yearned for a new relationship, it was the many months that I worked on visualizing myself as lovable and capable of maintaining a supportive, loving relationship that set in motion the process which resulted in meeting my now beloved husband, Chuck.

If you feel stuck and frustrated that your dream is not becoming a reality, consider what is or isn’t happening in your inner reality to support your desired outcome. Are you changing your inner reality to match the eventual reality desired?

Those who understand the Law of Attraction know that “your thoughts and feelings create your reality.” Seeing yourself in your mind’s eye enjoying the new life you desire helps to make it happen. When nothing is happening in your outer existence, recognize that you are being given an opportunity to go within and envision, create and get excited about the dream you are holding.

Astrological cycles describe the times when, for example, Saturn (limitation) may force you to re- evaluate your goals and make tangible plans for action when the time is right. When the progressed moon travels through your 12th house, you may feel lost in a dream space that has no tangible result for as long as a couple of years.

What astrology doesn’t describe is what you will choose to do while you are waiting for the external world to manifest your desire. You can allow yourself to feel frustrated, a victim of dissatisfaction with what is. Or you can proactively contribute to the creation of your desire by feeling and imagining as if it has already happened, knowing that your thoughts are at that moment creating it. What will you choose to do?

However, with Pluto there, we are likely to be intensely aware of not only our successes but our failures. Whatever your current focus, within it could be the key to what is blocking you from fulfilling you heart’s desire.

If you wish upon the New Moon (within 3 days before or after), you have the possibility of fulfillment by the time of the Full Moon. Sagittarius New Moon wishes relate to: quest for truth, peace of mind, travel/freedom/adventure, legal issues, faith/optimism, finding solutions, and overcoming excess.

Thursday, December 21 - Winter Solstice, Mars in Sagittarius squares Uranus in Pisces
The darkest day of the year hosts Mars in go-for-it Sagittarius challenging Uranus in the inner wisdom sign of Pisces. The tension between the two planets could bring up conflicts that are due to acting without thinking. Since the Solstice chart reveals the energies for the next three months, it doesn’t bode well for peace initiatives in areas of conflict. Listen carefully to your inner voice before you act.

Monday, December 25 (Christmas) - Mercury conjuncts Pluto in Sagittarius
Today is not a day for small talk. When you speak, it is likely to be about what you deeply value, what really matters to you. Christmas, what better time is there for pondering what is really important in life.

Sunday, December 31 (New Years Eve) - Mars in Sagittarius sextile Neptune in Aquarius
This easy relationship between Mars and Neptune holds the potential for spiritually-motivated, humanitarian actions. Creativity and open- heartedness will flavor the party as we ring in the New Year.

Tuesday, January 2 - Sun in Capricorn sextile Uranus in Pisces
Try something new today. The first workday of the New Year encourages innovation and ingenuity. Pick up the projects left over from 2006 and improve upon them.

Wednesday, January 3, 8:57 am ET - FULL MOON at 13 Cancer
With the Sun in Capricorn and Moon Cancer we are dealing with issues of inner and outer security. Uranus in a friendly connection to them both asks us to be flexible. By opening up, a radical new idea may pop into your mind that solves the issue at hand. Stay open.

Thursday, January 4 - Mercury in Capricorn sextile Uranus in Pisces
Just two days after the Sun/Uranus link, Mercury lifts the prevailing mood and offers insight and new ideas for meeting obligations. What innovations will you try to make life more productive and satisfying?

Monday, January 8 - Mars in Sagittarius trine Saturn in Leo
When Mars and Saturn shake hands in a fire sign, you’ve got a prescription for sound decisions and careful, effective action. What do you want to accomplish today? You’ll have help from this alignment, especially if there is strong fire (Aries, Leo, Sag) in your personal chart.

What a great Friday date night! Venus and Jupiter, both beneficial planets are sending harmonious vibrations for a great social evening. Go out and have fun!

Saturday, January 13 - Mars conjunct Pluto in Sagittarius
A day after the Venus/Jupiter harmonious contact, comes a passionate Mars/Pluto conjunction. Be careful that your passions find a safe and compassionate form of expression as this link up can prove to be highly aggressive and over-powering. Directing this energy through the moral lens of Sagittarius could bring courage under fire.
