Greater Cause for Gratitude this Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 23 for Americans is traditionally a day to remember what we have to be thankful for. This year we have an additional cause for gratitude. Jupiter, the planet that bestows abundance and generates the feeling of well-being, is moving that same day into Sagittarius, the sign it rules in which it is most comfortable.

Since October 2005, the “big guy” -- Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system -- has been transiting uncomfortably through the fixed sign of Scorpio. Jupiter’s fiery nature has been dampened by the watery nature of Scorpio. Instead of rising to expansive action, it has been mired with intense awareness of emotions such as doubt and fear. Those unhealed parts of us that need regeneration or transformation have been emphasized. In politics, this has certainly been visible with all the corruption that has come to light in the past year.

When Jupiter moves into optimistic, high energy Sagittarius, we are likely to feel the difference immediately. For the next year, we may become more socially-conscious, seeking freedom to explore and learn how to make the world work better, and opening a greater sense of responsibility for helping others. Fortunate for all of us, the principles of truth and integrity will begin to hold greater sway.

To consider what this may mean for you personally, think about what happened in your life 12 years ago (December 1994 to January 1996) when Jupiter last entered Sagittarius. What was the nature of your learning and growing at that time? A similar theme may be returning.

Generally, we are entering a time when optimism and risk-taking are able to blow away past doubt and fears as we catch a glimpse of the future we wish to create. Isn’t it time to take your vision and turn it into action instead of waiting for an indeterminate future? Aim high and though you may fall short, it is better to pick yourself up and try again than to decide what you desire is out of reach. In the shadow of the ongoing Saturn opposition with Neptune, be neither overburdened and limited by self doubt (Saturn) nor preoccupied with your delusional fantasies (Neptune). Let Jupiter in Sag be the wind beneath your feet as you answer your call to act on your inner inspiration and then put one foot in front of the other with a willingness to learn from the experience of every moment.

Wherever you are and with whomever you share on Thanksgiving, remember to count your many blessings, large and small, because, truly gratitude is the power behind abundant creation. It should also go without saying that it is wise to count our blessings daily, not just on Thanksgiving.

A bible verse I remember reading in my youth, Matthew 25:29, made no sense until recently. Jesus says after relating the parable of the talents, “For to every one who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”

What I now understand that to mean is for those who acknowledge their abundance more will flow to them. But sadly, those who have a poverty consciousness, poverty is what they will continue to find. In fact, according to the Law of Attraction, visualizing greater abundance will manifest more in your life. The Law of Attraction is beautifully described in the movie “The Secret” (view for free link in Resources to Explore below) and the book based on the Abraham teachings by Esther and Jerry Hicks called “Ask and it is Given.”

While I am on the subject of gratitude, I want to say to long time readers and new readers alike how truly thankful I am that you subscribe to my newsletter. It is my great joy to write it each month. The New Moon falls in the important last degree of Scorpio conjunct Jupiter. Emotions could be quite intense but whatever you are feeling could be cathartic, leading you to let go of what is blocking forward momentum. Ideas (Mercury) may flow with creativity and originality (Uranus). Capture them for action after optimism gets energized when Jupiter (Nov 23) then Mars (Dec 5) enter Sagittarius just in time for the Holiday festivities.

If you wish upon the New Moon (within 3 days before or after), you have the possibility of fulfillment by the time of the Full Moon. Scorpio New Moon wishes relate to: empowerment, change, crisis skills, self-mastery, sex/soul mates, financial partnerships, avoiding power struggles.

Thursday, November 23 (Thanksgiving Day) - Jupiter enters Sagittarius
After a year in emotional Scorpio where Jupiter expanded awareness of our doubts and our fears, we can breathe easier as it enters the sign it rules. On the day that we traditionally gather with family and friends to over eat and be thankful, we may actually feel more grateful and hopeful than we have in weeks or months. For the next year, even with the malaise of Saturn opposing Neptune until June, Jupiterian optimism and aspirations will help us see possibilities and actions to take.

Saturday, November 25 - Venus in Sagittarius squares Uranus in Pisces
The Venus in fun-loving Sag is challenged by Uranus in solitude-loving Pisces. Your urge to push the envelope of sensual pleasure-seeking may not find satisfaction unless it is balanced with the need to be free to explore inner peace.

Tuesday, November 28 - Mercury in Scorpio squares Neptune in Aquarius; Mars in Scorpio squares Saturn in Leo
Neither of these aspects bode well for getting much accomplished today. You may be spacey and unable to focus your mind, at the same time as you are feeling guilty that you aren’t getting more accomplished. Relax with the way things are today and leave your ambitious to-do list for another day.

Sunday, December 3 - Sun in Sagittarius squares Uranus in Pisces
Impatience and abrasiveness may be what you are experiencing today either in yourself or from others. Take a deep breath and chill, if you can.

Monday, December 4, 7:25 pm ET - FULL MOON at 13 Gemini, Mercury in Scorpio squares Saturn in Leo
With Uranus now squaring the Sun and Moon opposition, the energy is quite volatile and change is to be expected. With changing ideas and circumstances likely, it would be wise to stay flexible and in the moment. Flashes of insight come and go. If you experience information overload, try narrowing your focus to one thing at a time.

Tuesday, December 5 - Mars enters Sagittarius, Saturn in Leo goes retrograde
While Saturn turns backward until mid April, we get to reorganize our approach to life and get a last chance to review lessons learned in Leo before Saturn moves into Virgo in September 2007. Ambitious Mars joins Jupiter in Sagittarius inspiring ideals and encouraging risk-taking. We would be wise to take the lessons learned from the egocentric energy of Saturn in Leo and apply them as we formulate plans for the New Year.

Thursday, December 7 - Venus conjuncts Pluto in Sagittarius
Intense desires and overwhelming passion drive us today. Feeling like you’ve got to have something could be a prescription for disappointment or turmoil unless your values and morals are in harmony with the outcome.

Saturday, December 9 - Mercury conjunct Venus in Sagittarius
Ideas catch fire and the mind is racing. Mercury with Venus encourages creative writing, ability with crafts, and aesthetic thinking. Communicate love and affection today.

Sunday, December 10 - Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Sagittarius
New plans and schemes flourish today. Make sure to choose one that can work and go as far as you can with it. Don’t bog down in details but use this expansion of mind to put together conceptually what you will accomplish in the future.

Monday, December 11 - Mars conjuncts Jupiter in Sagittarius
Remember those plans from yesterday? Today you are given energy and enthusiasm equivalent to running in the hundred-yard dash. A more reasoned approach could channel today’s momentum into more staying power than just the short term.

Friday, December 15 - Mercury in Sagittarius squares Uranus in Pisces
Differences of point-of-view could lead to arguments due to blind devotion to our own way of thinking. Forget winning and accept differences. Save trying to find agreement to another day.

Monday, December 18 - Sun conjuncts Pluto in Sagittarius
Intense energies around personal power and personal belief systems could lead to conflict if you are seeking to control others. Recognizing your own inner power to define yourself and allowing others to do the same will allow this day to be whatever it is and not be troubled. Change is in the air!
