Being True to Yourself Amidst Outer Confusion
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Under the influence of the ongoing opposition of Saturn in Leo with Neptune in Aquarius (not complete until June 2007), I have been noticing a theme in my own life and many of my clients. It begged to be the topic of this month’s newsletter. Perhaps you will resonate with it as well.
The story begins with the feeling of confusion and the awareness of chaos in the external world. This is aided by mudslinging electioneering, the nuclear saber rattling by North Korea, and the general feeling of malaise regarding the seeming intractable problems of Iraq, environmental degradation, oil dependence, and healthcare/pharmaceutical inflation...on and on and on. You don’t need me to recount the issues. They are in your face daily in the paper or on TV and radio.
Or these feelings of confusion may hit closer to home for you. Perhaps you are dealing with a lack of job satisfaction, an unhappy relationship, or the feeling that something in your life isn’t quite right. Neptune’s influence can leave you feeling lethargic, unfocused and uncertain as to what to do about it.
At the same time, I find Saturn in Leo is asking us to be true to our self; to honor our own needs for self expression and self-actualization. If I am honest, really honest with myself, the truth is I am so much better at honoring and supporting others no matter where they are in their life...than I am at honoring myself.
Perhaps, like me, you were taught that it is better to give than receive. Now that is a prescription for burnout if I ever heard one. Giving without receiving often ends with nothing left to give. That is certainly NOT in harmony with the flow of life. Try only breathing out.
Being true to yourself requires that you open up to receive from others or from life in whatever way grace shows up. Being receptive does not involve searching or seeking to receive but merely holding open the possibility that life has something to give you without your having to do anything besides holding gratitude and faith foremost in your life.
In addition, honoring yourself requires being honest. In the act of being a good giver, have you ever discovered that you compromised or accommodated for another person leaving them thinking that you agreed with them when, in reality, you actually just sublimated your own needs to theirs. You may not have thought of that as being dishonest, but it is.
Focusing only on agreement and avoiding differences is certain to leave your relationship with a weak foundation, shallow and dishonest. When you lie to yourself, you end up being dishonest to others as well.
I am reminded of this passage from Shakespeare’s Macbeth:
“This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”
Above all, being true to yourself calls for deeply listening to yourself. What does your heart tell you? Taking time to meditate, walk in the woods, or just sit and ponder opens space for greater self awareness. Let these next few months be an opportunity to get to know yourself better. Listen to your hopes and dreams as well as your disappointments and dissatisfactions. Hold yourself in a loving way and your next steps will become clear.
As always, all your comments are welcome at SpiritinMatters@aol.com.
Astrological Coming Events
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

REMEMBER: These are general descriptions of what may be the energies of the day. You may experience these days quite different from what I describe if there are current stresses to your personal birth chart. Only a private consultation with a professional astrology will help you understand the significance of what you are experiencing.

Sunday, October 22, 1:14 am ET – NEW MOON at 29 Libra, Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Scorpio
Beside the upbeat and social conjunction of Mercury and Jupiter, there is a tight group (called a stellium) of planet as the last degrees of Libra (Mars, Sun, Moon, and Venus) giving special emphasis to relationships. Supporting one another and enjoying intimate conversations are favored. Are there any old friends you need to call?

If you wish upon the New Moon (within 3 days before or after), you have the possibility of fulfillment by the time of the Full Moon. Libra New Moon wishes relate to: Marriage, negotiation skills, harmony, teamwork, sociability/diplomacy, refinement, healing codependency.

Monday, October 23 - Sun conjunct Mars moving into Scorpio, Mercury in Scorpio square Saturn in Leo
The Sun and Mars call for assertive action while Mercury and Saturn may involve blocked conversation or a challenge to your ideas or opinions. Rather than lash back at those who oppose you today, you might just walk away, go work out, or read a murder mystery instead.

Wednesday, October 25 - Venus conjunct Mars in Scorpio, Jupiter in Scorpio square Saturn in Leo
This is the last of three alignments of Jupiter and Saturn. Perhaps now some stalled projects or plans will move ahead. With the Venus/Mars pairing in Scorpio, why not enjoy a romantic evening with your best “squeeze?”

Friday, October 27 - Sun conjunct Venus in Scorpio
Today, issues of self worth, intimacy and desire are foremost. Reach out and take a stand or at least take a step toward fulfilling your desires.

Saturday, October 28 - Mercury goes retrograde in Scorpio
Once again, Mercury (the Trickster) moves backward as perceived from Earth. This time it is Scorpio, which encourages pondering unconscious behaviors and bringing to light hidden motivations. Between now and November 17 when Mercury goes direction again, what you become aware of may not be only sweetness and light, but it is all important to embrace and accept. As usual, during this period it is ill advised to sign contracts or make major decisions as you may not really have all the facts. Transportation and computer snafus are highly possible.

Sunday, October 29 - Neptune goes direct in Aquarius
The unseen or imaginary world may intrude upon your awareness as the planet of “smoke & mirrors” moves forward. Interesting that it happens so near Halloween, when it is said that the veil between the worlds is much thinner.

Monday, October 30 - Mercury retrograde conjunct Jupiter in Scorpio
This is a day for optimism and perhaps adventure. Have you any travel plans? You may find conversations now go deep and reveal values and philosophies.

Sunday, November 5, 7:58 am ET – FULL MOON at 13 Taurus
Though the Moon is in Taurus, the weight of influence is squarely in Scorpio with five planets (Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Sun, and Mars) lined up all generally challenged by the ongoing Saturn/Neptune opposition. Something hidden is definitely seeking to be uncovered and known. In Washington, DC they all fall in the 12th House adding to the intrigue. Coming two days before the election, it will be interesting to find out what is uncovered. As Venus and Mars are still hugging the Sun, you can find balance by valuing and appreciating your personal relationships.

Monday, November 6 - Venus in Scorpio square Neptune in Aquarius
Venus is never that challenging, but when it challenges Neptune you may dream dreams that can never become real. A better way to use this energy would be to involve yourself in a creative project that has not purpose except your own self expression.

Tuesday, November 7 - Mercury retrograde conjunct Venus in Scorpio
Agreement will be easy to reach today. It’s a good time to schedule meeting or social events.

Thursday, November 9 - Sun in Scorpio square Neptune in Aquarius
Things could get confusing today and you may not feel very productive. Is it possible to relax and let the day unfold without pushing up river? It’s okay to space out once in awhile.

Saturday, November 11 - Mercury retrograde conjuncts Mars in Scorpio
Be aware that your words may carry extra power today. This can be positive as in being able to motivate others or negative as is being confrontational. It’s you choice.

Sunday, November 12 - Venus in Scorpio square Saturn in Leo
There are times when responsibility to our relationships conflict with our personal needs. What are the limits of your need for relationship? Your level of dependence on relationship may be revealed.

Wednesday, November 15 - Venus conjuncts Jupiter in Scorpio
It may be the middle of the week, but this is the day to wine and dine your sweetie. You’ll have a joyous, harmonious time. Oh, and it is just possible your finances will get a boost, too.

Friday, November 17 - Mercury goes direct in Scorpio, Sun in Scorpio squares Saturn in Leo, and Mars in Scorpio squares Neptune in Aquarius
A busy day for astrological influences! First, we can breathe a sign of relief as Mercury moves forward and thing get back to normal. I’d wait a couple days, however, before the coast is clear. When the Sun challenges Saturn and Mars challenges Neptune, there are mixed messages being sent. You may find yourself challenged with hard work and pushing to get something achieved, while the direction of means to get there is uncertain. Try not to blame yourself for your indecision or inertia. Actions to help others in need may flow easier than those directed by self-interest.
