Happy New Year! Time to Ground Your Dreams in Reality

Strange, you may think, for me to be offering a New Year greeting at this time of the year. For astrologers, the Spring Equinox is the start of the astrological year. The Sun entered Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, at 1:26 pm EST on March 20 and that began a new astrological year for me.

The chart of the time that the Sun enters Aries is used to interpret possible trends and circumstances for the next 3 months (season of Spring) and possibly the next year. It is called the Aries Ingress chart. Let’s look at what that chart reveals.

As with all of life, there’s good news and not so good news. Pluto is challenging the Sun indicating that there are subconscious issues to be dealt with. In general, we all may find ourselves dealing with new realities that challenge our long held beliefs. For those who hold tightly to their illusions, it could be a rocky road. On the other hand, you might want to consider, when conflicts arise, how you may be defending an old perspective that no longer matches your reality. Open up to the other point of view and see if you’re ready to see a deeper truth or willing to surrender concepts that no longer have meaning.

To add to the theme of illusion vs. reality, Jupiter and Neptune are clinging to each other in an awkward embrace. Something you believed to be true, wished to be true, hoped to be true is likely to be shattered this year, especially in the later half of the year when Saturn opposes Neptune. But never fear. This is surely for our own good.

For example, do you want to go on believing that everyone in your neighborhood appreciates you, that you are well-liked? Or would you rather know that the guy on the corner was spreading nasty rumors about you? Knowing this, you’ve got a chance to present the truth about yourself or maybe even clear things with him directly. Not knowing, you are essentially being stabbed in the back with no defense. Our illusions need a dose of reality from time to time and that appears to be one of the themes for the year.

On the positive side, Saturn and the Moon in the Aries Ingress chart form a harmonious grand trine with the Sun. There is good potential for achieving just the right amount of self-discipline to manifest a life circumstance that matches what you desire and has value for you. Might there be a dream that you are now ready to make real?

It appears we are all headed for the deflation of some of our illusory hopes and dreams, but in their place you could find -- with a little hard work, planning and delayed gratification -- your life unfolding in a more tangible and realistic way.

By this time next year, you may find your world changed. The dreams that were illusions will be gone and in their place is a new life grounded in reality. You are likely to be rewarded with tangible successes if you’ve let go of your daydreams and take up the task at hand.

Happy New Year! Pop the bubbles of illusion and take the first step to a disciplined year of success!
